L&#8217;Agence am\u00e9ricaine, toujours friande de formules spectaculaires, a titr\u00e9 : &#8220;Une galaxie spirale perd son sang et ses tripes&#8221;.\u00a0 Qu&#8217;arrive-t-il donc r\u00e9ellement \u00e0 cette malheureuse ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Les tra\u00een\u00e9es contiennent une multitude de jeunes \u00e9toiles (d&#8217;o\u00f9 la couleur bleue), n\u00e9es dans la galaxie et confin\u00e9es dans un flux de gaz, mais arrach\u00e9es \u00e0 leur environnement, tandis que l&#8217;ensemble se d\u00e9place dans le gaz surchauff\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent au\u00a0 centre des amas riches de galaxies. La r\u00e9gion centrale d&#8217;ESO 137-001, color\u00e9e en brun, est repouss\u00e9e de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re, mais l\u00e0 ce sont de fines particules de poussi\u00e8re obscure qui sont arrach\u00e9es, r\u00e9sultat des forces de pression exerc\u00e9es par le gaz de l&#8217;amas sur l&#8217;ensemble. Apr\u00e8s son passage, ESO 137-001 sera appauvrie en gaz froid n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la formation de nouvelles \u00e9toiles.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\">Petit rappel sur les amas et superamas de galaxies<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">La plupart des galaxies sont gr\u00e9gaires\u00a0: elles se rassemblent en groupes de quelques dizaines de membres, pouvant aller jusqu\u2019\u00e0 des amas de plusieurs milliers d\u2019objets, et des amas d\u2019amas, appel\u00e9s superamas. Notre propre galaxie, la Voie lact\u00e9e, appartient ainsi \u00e0 un ensemble d\u2019une quarantaine de galaxies appel\u00e9\u00a0<strong>Groupe Local<\/strong>, dont le diam\u00e8tre est environ 10 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re. Ses deux membres principaux sont la galaxie d\u2019Androm\u00e8de et la Voie lact\u00e9e, chacune d\u2019elles poss\u00e9dant son propre syst\u00e8me de petites galaxies satellites. Autour de la Voie lact\u00e9e gravitent notamment le Grand et le Petit Nuage de Magellan, que l\u2019on peut voir \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il nu dans l\u2019h\u00e9misph\u00e8re sud. Le Grand Nuage de Magellan se trouve \u00e0 170 000 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re. Il est riche en \u00e9toiles jeunes et brillantes. En 1987, on y a d&#8217;ailleurs vu l\u2019explosion d\u2019une supernova. Ce dernier regroupe environ 10\u00a0000 galaxies, r\u00e9parties dans une centaine d\u2019amas et de groupes.\u00a0 Le Groupe local est situ\u00e9 pr\u00e8s du bord et est attir\u00e9 par l&#8217;amas de la Vierge.\u00a0\u00c0 partir de l&#8217;effet gravitationnel du Superamas local sur le mouvement des galaxies qui le constituent, on estimer que sa masse totale est est environ un million de milliards de masses solaires. Cette anomalie gravitationnelle est appel\u00e9e <strong><a title=\"Grand Attracteur\" href=\"http:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_attracteur\">Grand Attracteur<\/a><\/strong>, ainsi nomm\u00e9e en raison de sa masse si grande et de son attraction gravitationnelle si intense qu&#8217;elle attire \u00e0 elle des amas entiers de galaxies. Situ\u00e9 entre 150 et 300 millions d&#8217;ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re, son observation directe est rendue difficile par le fait qu&#8217;il se trouve directement derri\u00e8re le plan de la Voie lact\u00e9e (dont les poussi\u00e8re absorbent la lumi\u00e8re). L&#8217;amas de galaxies Abell 3627 (dit aussi Amas Norma) que traverse ESO 137-001 &#8220;en perdant son sang et ses tripes&#8221; est proche du centre du Grand Attracteur. Les galaxies qui le composent (en bas) ne repr\u00e9sentent que 5% de sa masse. Le gaz, qui repr\u00e9sente 20% de la masse, est si chaud (plusieurs millions de degr\u00e9s) qu&#8217;il brille seulement en rayons X (color\u00e9s en rouge dans l&#8217;image du haut). La r\u00e9ponse est non\u00a0: les regroupements s\u2019arr\u00eatent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle des superamas, et ces derniers sont distribu\u00e9s \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s uniform\u00e9ment dans le vaste Univers.
