Je souffre tout au plus de ce que Chamfort a si bien dit : &#8220;La c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9 est la punition du talent, et le ch\u00e2timent du m\u00e9rite&#8221;.<\/em><br \/>\nFranz Liszt<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Duels de stars (1837)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dans la <em>Gazette Musicale de Paris<\/em> de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1834, j\u2019ai trouv\u00e9 un article d\u2019un d\u00e9nomm\u00e9 A. Gu\u00e9mer livrant une passionnante analyse des jeux pianistiques respectifs de Ferdinand Hiller, Henri Bertini, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin et Franz Liszt. Il y \u00e9crit \u00ab\u00a0si Ferdinand Hiller nous fait conna\u00eetre la science et la profondeur orn\u00e9es du go\u00fbt le plus soutenu\u00a0; si Bertini, l\u2019inspiration avec la patience\u00a0; si Chopin, la plus exquise sensibilit\u00e9, rendue par des signes mat\u00e9riels, Liszt, glorieuse pyramide de ce triangle de talents, Liszt sera r\u00e9ellement et particuli\u00e8rement le g\u00e9nie dans l\u2019ex\u00e9cution. [\u2026] Liszt a port\u00e9 ses regards vers toutes les r\u00e9gions \u00e9lev\u00e9es, et voyant les lettres, le th\u00e9\u00e2tre, la philosophie, la science m\u00eame se r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rer dans la libert\u00e9, il s\u2019est \u00e9lanc\u00e9 dans leur voie, pour d\u00e9tourner au profit de son art toutes les richesses du monde intellectuel. Les places sont vendues 40 francs (soit plus de 100 euros pour notre \u00e9poque). Les deux virtuoses joutent \u00e0 grand renfort de fantaisies sur des th\u00e8mes d\u2019op\u00e9ras. Le public, subjugu\u00e9 par les deux artistes, se refuse \u00e0 trancher. Une fois de plus, les deux virtuoses se retrouvent. Thalberg assiste \u00e0 un concert de son rival et l\u2019invite m\u00eame \u00e0 d\u00eener le 28 mars, avec le prince Dietrichstein (p\u00e8re suppos\u00e9 de Thalberg), qui se f\u00e9licite d\u2019avoir \u00e0 sa table \u00ab\u00a0Castor et Pollux \u00bb. Outre les jumeaux de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, c\u2019est le nom donn\u00e9 aux deux \u00e9toiles les plus brillantes de la constellation des G\u00e9meaux. Le jour suivant, les deux pianistes d\u00eenent de nouveau \u00e0 la m\u00eame table, invit\u00e9s cette fois par le prince Metternich. Dans certaines partitions particuli\u00e8rement difficiles d\u2019ex\u00e9cution, Liszt et Thalberg usent parfois de trois port\u00e9es pour bien diff\u00e9rencier les plans sonores et donner l\u2019illusion d\u2019une troisi\u00e8me main \u2013 celle du chant, dont la m\u00e9lodie est partag\u00e9e entre les pouces dextre et senestre dans le registre central du clavier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Un exemple instructif est la comparaison des transcriptions que Liszt et Thalberg ont respectivement faites du lied de Mendelssohn <em>Auf Fl\u00fcgen des Gesanges<\/em> (<em>Sur les ailes du chant<\/em>). La partition de Thalberg est sur deux port\u00e9es, celle de Liszt sur trois, celle du milieu permettant de parfaitement identifier la m\u00e9lodie jou\u00e9e en alternance par les pouces des deux mains. Des ann\u00e9es de c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9 que les musicologues baptiseront la <em>Glanz-Period<\/em>, qui signifie \u00ab\u00a0apog\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Le succ\u00e8s de Liszt ne tient pas uniquement \u00e0 ses prouesses techniques. Il d\u00e9gage une forme de magn\u00e9tisme. Derri\u00e8re son piano, le visage dissimul\u00e9 par de longs cheveux tombants, Liszt entre dans une forme de transe, encha\u00eenant grimaces et effets qui subjuguent son public. Marie Duplessis, de son vrai nom Alphonsine Plessis, est la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre et la plus ch\u00e8re des courtisanes de la capitale fran\u00e7aise. Paysanne normande presque illettr\u00e9e, \u00e0 l\u2019enfance tourment\u00e9e, elle est devenue la demi-mondaine mettant tout Paris \u00e0 ses pieds.
