Et m\u00eame si le compositeur n\u2019a pas exprim\u00e9 directement son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour l\u2019exploration scientifique du cosmos, sa passion pour le ciel spirituel, son rapport \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ther et un certain nombre de ses compositions comprenant lieder, transcriptions, oratorios et \u0153uvres pianistiques, rendent pertinent d\u2019inscrire une partie de sa trajectoire humaine et artistique dans les \u00e9toiles. La sage-femme, une boh\u00e9mienne, lui pr\u00e9dit gloire et prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9, car une com\u00e8te passe cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0 dans le ciel. Elle d\u00e9clare: \u00ab Franzi roulera un jour dans un carrosse d\u2019apparat&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">La Grande Com\u00e8te de 1811 fut en effet d\u00e9couverte au mois de mars par un astronome amateur vivant en Ard\u00e8che. Visible pendant neuf mois \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il nu, elle atteint une magnitude voisine de 0, soit celle des plus brillantes \u00e9toiles du ciel comme V\u00e9ga. Ses caract\u00e9ristiques extr\u00eamement spectaculaires ont profond\u00e9ment marqu\u00e9 les contemporains. Sa conjonction avec une vague de chaleur estivale in\u00e9dite a suscit\u00e9 des inqui\u00e9tudes de fin du monde, dont on trouve des \u00e9chos dans la litt\u00e9rature de l\u2019\u00e9poque, et m\u00eame plus tard\u00a0: dans <em>Guerre et Paix,<\/em> L\u00e9on Tolsto\u00ef la d\u00e9crit comme un pr\u00e9sage de mauvais augure. Avant de devenir l\u2019un des plus grands astronomes de son temps, Herschel (1738-1822) avait \u00e9t\u00e9 compositeur. Durant sa jeunesse pass\u00e9e \u00e0 Hanovre, il avait re\u00e7u une \u00e9ducation musicale de son p\u00e8re, violoniste et hautbo\u00efste. Lui-m\u00eame devenu hautbo\u00efste militaire, il est appel\u00e9 en Grande-Bretagne en 1756. Lib\u00e9r\u00e9 de ses obligations militaires, il obtient la direction des concerts d\u2019\u00c9dimbourg, puis se retrouve organiste \u00e0 Bath, dont il va organiser la vie musicale pendant dix ans. Il l&#8217;avait d&#8217;abord prise pour une com\u00e8te : \u00e0 droite, son compte-rendu d&#8217;observation que j&#8217;ai photographi\u00e9 \u00e0 la Royal Society of London.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En 1796, le marquis de Laplace publie <em>L\u2019Exposition du syst\u00e8me du monde, <\/em>synth\u00e8se de toute la science de son temps qui lui vaudra d\u2019\u00eatre appel\u00e9 le \u00ab\u00a0Newton fran\u00e7ais\u00a0\u00bb. Son ouvrage conna\u00eetra cinq \u00e9ditions successives jusqu\u2019en 1835. Laplace y lance notamment de nouvelles hypoth\u00e8ses cosmogoniques, dont celle de la \u00ab\u00a0n\u00e9buleuse primitive\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 l\u2019origine de tous les mod\u00e8les actuels de formation des syst\u00e8mes solaires et plan\u00e9taires. On lui doit aussi la description d\u2019un astre suffisamment massif pour emprisonner la lumi\u00e8re, que l\u2019on appellera un si\u00e8cle et demi plus tard \u00ab\u00a0trou noir\u00a0\u00bb. Je gage que le tr\u00e8s fervent catholique Franz Liszt n\u2019aurait gu\u00e8re appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 ce point de vue\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Enfin, le premier jour du XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle voit la d\u00e9couverte du premier <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ast%C3%A9ro%C3%AFde\">ast\u00e9ro\u00efde<\/a> par le moine sicilien directeur de l\u2019Observatoire de Palerme, Giuseppe Piazzi. Il sera baptis\u00e9 (1) C\u00e9r\u00e8s. Liszt reverra bri\u00e8vement Caroline lors d\u2019un concert donn\u00e9 en 1844 \u00e0 Pau. On y reconna\u00eet ais\u00e9ment Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, George Sand, Paganini, Rossini, Marie d\u2019Agoult de dos. Au mur, un portrait de Byron, sur le couvercle du piano un buste de Beethoven.
