L\u2019URSS lance le vaisseau spatial <em>Voskhod\u00a02<\/em> en orbite terrestre avec deux cosmonautes \u00e0 bord, dont l\u2019ing\u00e9nieur Alexe\u00ef Leonov. Son nom va entrer dans la grande histoire de l\u2019exploration spatiale. Par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire d\u2019un sas ouvert sur le vide, Leonov, \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un scaphandre, effectue la premi\u00e8re sortie dans l\u2019espace. On voit le cosmonaute flotter \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du sas dans l\u2019espace cosmique. La mission fr\u00f4le cependant le drame. Une fois dans l\u2019espace, la combinaison de Leonov, trop gonfl\u00e9e par la pression, devient rigide et l\u2019emp\u00eache de rentrer par la trappe de sortie. De fait la mission a fr\u00f4l\u00e9 la catastrophe \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, et ce sera le dernier vol de la s\u00e9rie Voskhod. Outre le probl\u00e8me de la combinaison de Leonov, le syst\u00e8me d&#8217;orientation automatique du vaisseau permettant sa rentr\u00e9e atmosph\u00e9rique s&#8217;est r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 d\u00e9ficient. Les deux cosmonautes ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 la faire manuellement, atterrissant cependant \u00e0 400 km de la zone pr\u00e9vue dans deux m\u00e8tres de neige, et passant deux jours dans la nature avant d&#8217;\u00eatre r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s !<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">L\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement fait grand bruit. Dans une interview donn\u00e9e en 2015, il a comment\u00e9 ainsi sa sortie &#8220;Ma femme [Bernice] \u00e9tait dans la salle de contr\u00f4le de la mission, et il y avait pas mal d&#8217;appr\u00e9hension. Je voulais dire quelque chose ressemblant \u00e0 ce que Neil [Armstrong] avait d\u00e9clar\u00e9 en se\u00a0 posant sur la lune, alors j&#8217;ai dit &#8220;C&#8217;\u00e9tait peut-\u00eatre un petit pas pour Neil, mais pour moi c&#8217;est un sacr\u00e9 grand saut&#8221; . Cela a un peu rel\u00e2ch\u00e9 la tension.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">L\u2019Homme n\u2019\u00e9tant pas du tout fait pour vivre dans le vide hostile de l\u2019espace sans \u00e9quipements sp\u00e9ciaux, la combinaison est cruciale. L\u2019\u00e9quipement doit fournir \u00e0 l\u2019astronaute l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne, \u00e9vacuer le dioxyde de carbone et la vapeur d\u2019eau expir\u00e9s, et assurer une protection thermique tout en autorisant une mobilit\u00e9 maximale. S\u2019ajoutent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement \u00e0 ces fonctions un syst\u00e8me de communications, une protection partielle contre les rayons cosmiques et les microm\u00e9t\u00e9orites, et la possibilit\u00e9 pour son occupant de boire. Sa sortie a dur\u00e9 5h57, alors record de dur\u00e9e pour une EVA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><!--more-->Les activit\u00e9s extrav\u00e9hiculaires (en abr\u00e9g\u00e9, EVA) les plus spectaculaires ont \u00e9videmment \u00e9t\u00e9 celles r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 six reprises sur le sol lunaire et en duo par des astronautes du programme <em>Apollo<\/em>. Jusqu\u2019alors, toutes les sorties extrav\u00e9hiculaires avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 exp\u00e9rimentales, avec les missions lunaires elles rev\u00eatent un caract\u00e8re scientifique\u00a0: collecte de roches, d\u00e9pose d\u2019appareils d\u2019observation, prise de centaines de clich\u00e9s photographiques. Au total, 14\u00a0marches lunaires sont effectu\u00e9es entre 1969 et\u00a01972. Lors des derni\u00e8res, les randonneurs parcourent de plus grandes distances en voiture, s\u2019\u00e9loignant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 7\u00a0kilom\u00e8tres du module d\u2019exploration lunaire. Son miroir principal pr\u00e9sentait un d\u00e9faut qu\u2019il fallait imp\u00e9rativement corriger. Durant cinq jours cons\u00e9cutifs, deux astronautes ont encha\u00een\u00e9 des sorties d\u2019une dur\u00e9e de six \u00e0 huit\u00a0heures, l\u2019op\u00e9ration a \u00e9t\u00e9 un \u00e9clatant succ\u00e8s. Au cin\u00e9ma, <em>2001\u00a0: l\u2019odyss\u00e9e de l\u2019espace<\/em>, de Stanley Kubrick, tourn\u00e9 en 1968 en pleine p\u00e9riode de conqu\u00eate de la Lune, a marqu\u00e9 les esprits autant par les images que par le silence de la bande-son exprimant celui qui est ressenti dans l\u2019espace. Plus r\u00e9cemment et tourn\u00e9 pour l\u2019essentiel en images de synth\u00e8se, le film <em>Gravity<\/em>, d\u2019Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n, a accord\u00e9 une grande place aux activit\u00e9s extrav\u00e9hiculaires, qui, aux dires m\u00eame de plusieurs astronautes, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 reconstitu\u00e9es de fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s r\u00e9aliste.
