Jusqu&#8217;alors, beaucoup pensaient m\u00eame que l\u2019Univers se limitait \u00e0 la Voie lact\u00e9e et que les \u00ab\u00a0n\u00e9buleuses\u00a0spirales\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9taient de simples nuages de gaz qui en faisait partie. Depuis, on a d\u00e9couvert que l\u2019Univers \u2013 du moins celui que nous pouvons observer \u2013 a un diam\u00e8tre un million de fois plus grand que celui de la Voie Lact\u00e9e, qu\u2019il est n\u00e9 il y a quatorze milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es et qu\u2019il est en expansion depuis, qu\u2019il a une g\u00e9om\u00e9trie de courbure proche de z\u00e9ro, et qu\u2019apr\u00e8s s\u2019\u00eatre ralentie, son expansion s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e8re depuis quelques milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es.
