Le candidat de l\u2019administration \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sidence de la NASA, le r\u00e9publicain Jim Bridenstine, a \u00e9t\u00e9 rejet\u00e9 par les d\u00e9mocrates, et c\u2019est ainsi un pr\u00e9sident par int\u00e9rim, Robert Lightfoot, qui est en poste depuis plus de 400 jours\u2026 et qui part \u00e0 la retraite. On s\u2019avance vers un nouveau pr\u00e9sident par int\u00e9rim. Robert Zubrin, pr\u00e9sident de la Mars Society, souligne l\u2019absurdit\u00e9 de ce Lunar Orbital Platform qui sert \u00e0 justifier, entre autres, la poursuite du co\u00fbteux programme de fus\u00e9e g\u00e9ante SLS de la NASA. Or, Zubrin pr\u00e9cise qu\u2019une fus\u00e9e bien moins co\u00fbteuse est aujourd\u2019hui op\u00e9rationnelle\u00a0: la Heavy Falcon de SpaceX (Elon Musk). Elle pourrait d\u2019ores et d\u00e9j\u00e0 poser 12 tonnes de charge utile sur la Lune (pour rappel, le LEM Apollo transportait l\u2019\u00e9quivalent de 5 tonnes\u00a0: son \u00e9tage de remont\u00e9e). Un premier Heavy Falcon poserait sur la Lune du cargo (panneaux solaires, automobiles, syst\u00e8me de t\u00e9l\u00e9com)\u00a0; le second un habitat avec vivres et outils\u00a0; et le troisi\u00e8me poserait l\u2019\u00e9quipage avec son \u00e9tage de retour sur Terre. Une fois ce vaisseau en orbite, d\u2019autres tirs de fus\u00e9es identiques, en mode \u00ab\u00a0tanker\u00a0\u00bb, viendraient faire le plein de ses r\u00e9servoirs pour un \u00e9lancement soit vers la Lune, soit vers Mars (150 tonnes de charge utile, astronautes compris). La fus\u00e9e BFR s\u2019y pr\u00eatera de bonne gr\u00e2ce. Mais c\u2019est l\u2019exploration de Mars qu\u2019Elon Musk a en ligne de mire, et il confirme 2022 comme premi\u00e8re date pour un atterrissage sur la plan\u00e8te rouge de deux vaisseaux-cargos, sans \u00e9quipages dans un premier temps\u00a0; et 2024 pour deux nouveaux vaisseaux-cargos ET deux vaisseaux avec \u00e9quipages\u00a0!<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019entrepreneur annonce des progr\u00e8s en ce sens, notamment la mise au point de son nouveau moteur Raptor \u00e0 m\u00e9thane et oxyg\u00e8ne liquide, d\u00e9j\u00e0 tir\u00e9 au banc d\u2019essai pour des p\u00e9riodes d\u00e9passant 100 secondes.
