Dundas et al.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ce qu\u2019un nouveau travail de recherche, dirig\u00e9 par Colin Dundas de la US Geological Survey et ses co-auteurs, vient de mettre en \u00e9vidence, c\u2019est qu\u2019il y a \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de glace \u00e9galement aux latitudes moyennes de la plan\u00e8te, centr\u00e9e vers 55\u00b0 nord et sud, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire aux latitudes correspondant sur Terre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cosse et au Danemark. L\u2019\u00e9tude a \u00e9t\u00e9 conduite sur des images \u00e0 haute r\u00e9solution, prises par le satellite martien MRO, sur huit sites o\u00f9 le terrain a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9rod\u00e9 en falaises qui montrent une vue en coupe du sous-sol. Or y appara\u00eet, sous moins d\u2019un m\u00e8tre de sol, une couche de glace \u00e9paisse de plus de 100 m\u00e8tres. Il s\u2019agirait de neige compact\u00e9e, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque o\u00f9 le changement climatique martien, bien mod\u00e9lis\u00e9 d\u2019apr\u00e8s les calculs des \u00ab\u00a0cycles de Milankovi\u0107\u00a0\u00bb de la plan\u00e8te rouge, aurait favoris\u00e9 les pr\u00e9cipitations neigeuses sur les hautes \u00e0 moyennes latitudes plut\u00f4t que directement aux p\u00f4les.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-692\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/frankel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/01\/MilankovicOlympus.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[688]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-692\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/frankel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/01\/MilankovicOlympus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L&#8217;une des falaises de glace, dues au changement climatique, a \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9e dans le crat\u00e8re Milankovic\u2014quel \u00e0 propos!\u2014\u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du volcan Olympus Mons. Installer une base \u00e0 mi-chemin serait une aubaine pour les futurs explorateurs&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>C\u2019est une aubaine pour l\u2019exploration humaine de Mars. L\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des ressources en eau pour la base serait automatique et facile pr\u00e8s des p\u00f4les, mais g\u00e2ch\u00e9 par la nuit hivernale tr\u00e8s longue \u00e0 ces endroits. Que des ressources similaires existent par 55\u00b0 de latitude rend la colonisation beaucoup plus facile, avec des heures d\u2019insolation satisfaisantes en toutes saisons. M\u00eame pas besoin de moyens sophistiqu\u00e9s pour atteindre la glace\u00a0: il n\u2019y a qu\u2019\u00e0 creuser quelques d\u00e9cim\u00e8tres seulement.
