Et il n\u2019a pas froid aux yeux\u00a0: \u00e0 poste depuis 2011 sur la cr\u00eate du grand crat\u00e8re d\u2019impact Endeavour\u2014large de 22 kilom\u00e8tres et profond de 300 m\u00e8tres\u2014il flirte avec une pente atteignant 20 degr\u00e9s par endroits, faisant g\u00e9n\u00e9reusement patiner ses roues. Bizarrement, l\u2019un d\u2019entre eux est un site d\u00e9j\u00e0 explor\u00e9 par le rover Spirit (2004-2011), \u00e0 savoir les Columbia Hills du crat\u00e8re Gusev o\u00f9 le premier robot a d\u00e9couvert des d\u00e9p\u00f4ts laiss\u00e9s il y a des milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es par des sources volcaniques hydrothermales. Il y a une logique d\u2019aller approfondir l\u2019analyse d\u2019un site d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9tudi\u00e9 et prometteur en mati\u00e8re d\u2019indices de vie potentiels, mais d\u00e9couvrir un nouveau site para\u00eet plus int\u00e9ressant, ne serait-ce que pour le public qu\u2019il ne faut pas oublier. Se d\u00e9tachent ainsi la province volcanique \u00e9quatoriale de Syrtis Major, o\u00f9 des sources hydrothermales auraient \u00e9galement pu barboter, et surtout le crat\u00e8re d\u2019impact Jezero o\u00f9 un ancien delta marque la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un lac antique, avec des traces d\u2019argiles et de carbonates.
