{"id":1101,"date":"2022-12-13T18:19:04","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T18:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/frankel\/?p=1101"},"modified":"2024-12-26T17:16:02","modified_gmt":"2024-12-26T17:16:02","slug":"volcanisme-encore-actif-sur-mars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/frankel\/2022\/12\/13\/volcanisme-encore-actif-sur-mars\/","title":{"rendered":"Volcanisme encore actif sur Mars"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Les analyses convergent depuis deux ans \u2013 bas\u00e9es \u00e0 la fois sur les images prises depuis orbite et sur la surveillance sismique au sol de la sonde InSight \u2013 pour sugg\u00e9rer que le volcanisme sur Mars est encore bien vivant.<br \/>L\u2019essentiel du volcanisme sur la plan\u00e8te rouge a eu lieu lors du premier tiers de son histoire, entre 4,5 et 3 milliards d\u2019ann\u00e9es, avec les volcans de l\u2019h\u00e9misph\u00e8re Sud autour du bassin d\u2019Hellas, le bombement volcanique de Tharsis et ses boucliers de lave g\u00e9ants dans l\u2019h\u00e9misph\u00e8re Nord, et ceux du bombement d\u2019Elysium plus \u00e0 l\u2019est, dont l\u2019activit\u00e9 principale a perdur\u00e9 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 quelques centaines de millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es seulement avant l\u2019\u00e9poque actuelle (et quelques millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es seulement pour quelques ultimes coul\u00e9es de lave \u00e0 leur pied).<br \/>Or, une ultime province volcanique s\u2019est ajout\u00e9e \u00e0 cette histoire, il y a environ 350 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es, au sud-est d\u2019Elysium, repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par des plaines volcaniques et des fissures d\u2019extension : la zone de Cerberus Fossae. L\u2019aspect exceptionnellement jeune de cette province sugg\u00e8re l\u00e0 aussi une activit\u00e9 inachev\u00e9e, avec des coul\u00e9es de lave, voire des fontes de glace et des inondations, vieilles de deux \u00e0 trois millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es seulement. Le choix de cette r\u00e9gion comme site d\u2019atterrissage de la sonde InSight de la NASA, porteuse d\u2019un sismom\u00e8tre fran\u00e7ais, n\u2019y a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tranger.<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_1105\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1105\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a actuellement focalis\u00e9e sous Cerberus Fossae, mais les images orbitales de Mars Global Surveyor ont mis en \u00e9vidence des fissures entour\u00e9es d\u2019un halo de cendres noires qui t\u00e9moignent de r\u00e9centes \u00e9ruptions explosives : les chercheurs pensent que l\u2019\u00e2ge des \u00e9ruptions est inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 200 000 ans, voire autour de 50 000 ans seulement (la marge d\u2019erreur \u00e9tant encore assez large dans ce genre de photo-interpr\u00e9tation).<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_1104\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1104\" style=\"width: de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de l\u2019Arizona, ont mod\u00e9lis\u00e9 l\u2019environnement g\u00e9ologique de Cerberus Fossae, en se basant notamment sur le champ de gravit\u00e9 qui permet de deviner la structure de la cro\u00fbte et du manteau sous-jacent, et proposent un panache mantellique de type point chaud \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre sous la r\u00e9gion, s\u2019\u00e9tendant sous la cro\u00fbte en une galette de roche chaude de pr\u00e8s de 4 000 kilom\u00e8tres de large, fissurant la cro\u00fbte et alimentant le volcanisme en surface.<\/p>\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_1106\"
