C&#8217;est pendant le printemps martien (qui a d\u00e9but\u00e9 le 22 mai), quand la Plan\u00e8te rouge se rapproche du Soleil (plus courte distance fin juillet), que le r\u00e9chauffement de la calotte polaire Sud provoque une sublimation rapide du\u00a0dioxyde de carbone dont elle est constitu\u00e9e. Le clich\u00e9 de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 gauche a \u00e9t\u00e9 pris dans le pass\u00e9 par Mars Global Surveyor, celui de droite le 28 juin par Damian Peach. \u00a9 NASA\/Damian Peach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Le 30 mai l&#8217;orbiteur\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2016\/06\/28\/mro-deniche-sur-mars-deux-tres-jeunes-crateres-noirs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MRO<\/a>\u00a0a enregistr\u00e9 les premiers signes d&#8217;une temp\u00eate qui a mis un mois pour recouvrir tout le paysage.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;image de gauche a \u00e9t\u00e9 acquise dans le pass\u00e9 par un autre orbiteur, <a href=\"https:\/\/mars.nasa.gov\/mgs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mars Global Surveyor<\/a>, celle de droite par l&#8217;astrophotographe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.damianpeach.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Damian Peach<\/a> le 28 juin. Les deux clich\u00e9 sont centr\u00e9s sur la r\u00e9gion du plateau de <em>Tharsis<\/em>,\u00a0un vaste soul\u00e8vement volcanique d&#8217;environ 5.500 km de diam\u00e8tre qui supporte les quatre plus gros \u00e9difices volcaniques martiens \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/videos\/olympus-mons-mars-plus-grand-volcan-systeme-solaire-1879\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Olympus Mons<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(le plus grand volcan du Syst\u00e8me solaire) et les trois volcans formant <em>Tharsis Montes<\/em> (align\u00e9s du nord au sud : <em>Ascraeus Mons<\/em> (18.225 m), <em>Pavonis Mons<\/em> (14.058 m) et <em>Arsia Mons<\/em> (17.761 m).
