Le <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/01\/17\/vlt-observatoire-desert-atacama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VLT<\/a>\u00a0est un ensemble de 4 t\u00e9lescopes de 8 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre et de 4 t\u00e9lescopes auxiliaires de 1,8 m\u00e8tre qui peuvent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s s\u00e9par\u00e9ment mais qu&#8217;on peut aussi coupler dans sa version interf\u00e9rom\u00e9trique, le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\/sci\/facilities\/paranal\/telescopes\/vlti.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VLTI<\/a> (<em>Very Large Telescope Interferometer<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[8030]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8032\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt-450x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt-450x240.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt-768x410.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt-1024x546.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/07\/vlt.jpg 1687w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>La technique de l&#8217;interf\u00e9rom\u00e9trie consiste \u00e0 m\u00e9langer les faisceaux provenant de plusieurs t\u00e9lescopes, ce qui permet d&#8217;obtenir la r\u00e9solution d&#8217;un instrument virtuel dont le diam\u00e8tre est \u00e9gal \u00e0 la distance s\u00e9parant les t\u00e9lescopes (dans le cas du VLT cette distance est de 200 m).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent on pouvait combiner 2 t\u00e9lescopes du VLT dans la bande de 8 \u00e0 13 microns avec l&#8217;instrument <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\/sci\/facilities\/paranal\/decommissioned\/midi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MIDI<\/a> et 3 dans la bande de 1,1 \u00e0 2,4 microns avec l&#8217;instrument <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/sci\/facilities\/paranal\/instruments\/amber.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AMBER<\/a>. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 MATISSE (<em>Multi AperTure mid-Infrared SpectroScopic Experiment<\/em>)\u00a0il sera d\u00e9sormais possible\u00a0de combiner simultan\u00e9ment les donn\u00e9es de 4 t\u00e9lescopes dans le domaine spectral de l\u2019infrarouge moyen, entre 3 et 13 microns, ce qui permettra d&#8217;\u00e9tudier la formation des tr\u00e8s jeunes syst\u00e8mes plan\u00e9taires cach\u00e9s dans la poussi\u00e8re de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/03\/02\/voie-lactee-se-leve-arches-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener sous-sols du v\u00e9n\u00e9rable <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/11\/20\/la-grande-lunette-de-lobservatoire-de-nice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Observatoire de Nice<\/a> qu&#8217;a \u00e9t\u00e9 patiemment construit MATISSE pendant une d\u00e9cennie : 5 ans pour imaginer l&#8217;instrument et 5 ans pour concevoir, assembler et tester les diff\u00e9rents \u00e9l\u00e9ments (d\u00e9tecteurs infrarouges, cryostats, bloc optique compos\u00e9 notamment de 200 petits miroirs actionn\u00e9s par des moteurs&#8230;).<\/p>\n<figure MATISSE.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>L&#8217;instrument \u00e9tant d\u00e9sormais op\u00e9rationnel, il va \u00eatre enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9mont\u00e9 puis emball\u00e9 avant de partir au mois
