Charles Messier l&#8217;ajouta \u00e0 son catalogue des objets n\u00e9buleux (le fameux <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/actualites\/astronomie-astronomie-catalogue-messier-250-ans-16597\/\" target=\"_blank\">catalogue Messier<\/a>) le 13 avril 1781.<\/p>\n<p>Messier 98 (tout comme <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/12\/24\/arp-116-un-etrange-couple-de-galaxies-dans-la-vierge\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arp 116<\/a>) est l&#8217;une des nombreuses galaxies qui constituent l&#8217;Amas de la Vierge, \u00a0une concentration de plus de 1.500 galaxies assez proches de nous (entre 50 et 70 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re) qui fut d\u00e9couverte par Charles Messier \u00e0 la fin du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle.\u00a0Avec une magnitude proche de 11, cette galaxie est l&#8217;un des objets les plus faibles et les plus difficiles \u00e0 observer du catalogue Messier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[6383]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6384\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie-450x307.jpg\" alt=\"galaxie\" width=\"450\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie-450x307.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie-768x523.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie-1024x698.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/09\/galaxie.jpg 1330w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cette image a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par le NTT (\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/teles-instr\/lasilla\/ntt\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>New Technology Telescope<\/em><\/a>) de l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/france\/images\/potw1636a\/\" target=\"_blank\">ESO<\/a>, un t\u00e9lescope de 3,6 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre qui fut inaugur\u00e9 en 1989. Il fut \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9poque le premier t\u00e9lescope au monde \u00e0 disposer d&#8217;une optique adaptative, un dispositif qui modifie la forme du miroir pour compenser les effets n\u00e9fastes de la turbulence atmosph\u00e9rique.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Messier 98, dont on estime qu&#8217;elle est constitu\u00e9e de mille milliards d&#8217;\u00e9toiles,\u00a0se pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 nous presque par la tranche et nous montre un disque diffus comportant des zones bleut\u00e9es constitu\u00e9es de jeunes \u00e9toiles \u00a0tr\u00e8s chaudes.
