Ces deux satellites, construits dans le cadre du programme franco-italien Orf\u00e9o (<em>Optical and Radar Federated Earth Observation<\/em>), sont capables de r\u00e9aliser chacun 500 images par jour gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un d\u00e9tecteur tr\u00e8s sensible permettant de r\u00e9duire les temps d&#8217;exposition. Ils observent la Terre \u00e0 des fins civiles ou militaires depuis une orbite h\u00e9liosynchrone basse (694 km d&#8217;altitude), venant ainsi compl\u00e9ter avec une meilleure r\u00e9solution le travail des satellites Spot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2.jpg\"  rel=\"lightbox[4677] attachment wp-att-4678\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4678\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2-450x450.jpg\" alt=\"vlt2\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2-450x450.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/01\/vlt2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;image ci-dessus, propos\u00e9e par le <a href=\"https:\/\/cnes.fr\/fr\/media\/isr3545439satelliteimagepleiadescerroparanalchili20130921-3jpg?vnc=jATFkP-JyKhKSFU5wYoukjMusIZZ0A3bDX7E0iTBA4M&amp;vnp=0\" target=\"_blank\">CNES<\/a>, a \u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0 acquise en 2013. Elle r\u00e9v\u00e8le l&#8217;un des sites les plus embl\u00e9matiques de l&#8217;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/france\/\" target=\"_blank\">ESO<\/a>, le <em>Very Large Telescope<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Les 4 t\u00e9lescopes qui composent le <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/10\/28\/en-video-le-centre-galactique-passe-au-zenith-du-vlt\/\" target=\"_blank\">VLT<\/a>, \u00e9quip\u00e9s de miroirs primaires de 8,2 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre, sont naturellement destin\u00e9s \u00e0 \u00eatre point\u00e9s vers le ciel mais pour une fois c&#8217;est depuis le ciel qu&#8217;ils sont photographi\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Chacun de ces t\u00e9lescopes peut travailler seul, mais on peut aussi les associer \u00e0 4 autres t\u00e9lescopes plus petits (1,8 m\u00e8tre) et mobiles (ils circulent sur des rails, les bandes blanches visibles \u00ab\u00a0sous\u00a0\u00bb les coupoles). Cette configuration permet de r\u00e9aliser un interf\u00e9rom\u00e8tre g\u00e9ant, le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\/sci\/facilities\/paranal\/telescopes\/vlti.html\" target=\"_blank\">VLTI<\/a>, capable d\u2019offrir des vues de l\u2019Univers 25 fois plus pr\u00e9cises qu\u2019avec un seul des t\u00e9lescopes.
