Maven est un orbiteur de 717 kg et 11 m d&#8217;envergure dont les 8 instruments scientifiques sont charg\u00e9s d&#8217;\u00e9tudier l&#8217;interaction entre le vent solaire et l&#8217;atmosph\u00e8re de la Plan\u00e8te rouge depuis une orbite elliptique (la distance entre Maven et la surface de <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/02\/27\/les-etonnants-nuages-geants-de-la-planete-mars\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mars <\/a>varie de 150 \u00e0 6300 km).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/05\/mars_aurore2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2820]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2821\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/05\/mars_aurore2-450x277.jpg\" alt=\"mars_aurore2\" width=\"450\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/05\/mars_aurore2-450x277.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/05\/mars_aurore2-1024x630.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2015\/05\/mars_aurore2.jpg 1728w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>En d\u00e9cembre dernier le spectrographe ultraviolet de l&#8217;orbiteur a enregistr\u00e9 des aurores polaires tr\u00e8s \u00e9tendues dans tout l&#8217;h\u00e9misph\u00e8re nord de la Plan\u00e8te rouge qui descendaient jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 30\u00b0 de latitude.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Les aurores martiennes sont diff\u00e9rentes des <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/05\/17\/en-video-les-aurores-islandaises-de-stephane-vetter\/\" target=\"_blank\">aurores terrestres<\/a>. Sur Terre les particules \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques solaires suivent les lignes du champ magn\u00e9tique et p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans l&#8217;atmosph\u00e8re au niveau des p\u00f4les (rappelons que notre plan\u00e8te a un champ magn\u00e9tique global, g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la rotation d&#8217;un noyau de m\u00e9tal liquide\u00a0: c&#8217;est l&#8217;effet dynamo). Une fois dans notre atmosph\u00e8re, les particules solaires ionisent principalement des mol\u00e9cules d&#8217;oxyg\u00e8ne (couleurs verte et rouge) et un peu d&#8217;azote (couleur rose).<\/p>\n<p>Sur <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/01\/26\/opportunity-11-ans-sur-la-planete-mars\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mars <\/a>le champ magn\u00e9tique global est inexistant mais les particules solaires sont pi\u00e9g\u00e9es par des champs magn\u00e9tiques r\u00e9manents localis\u00e9s dans le sous-sol de certaines r\u00e9gions, ce qui explique que ces aurores puissent se d\u00e9velopper \u00e0 de tr\u00e8s basses latitudes.
