D&#8217;abord, parce qu&#8217;avec son miroir de 3 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre, ce t\u00e9lescope spatial apporterait une contribution majeure \u00e0 l&#8217;astronomie. Rappelons quand m\u00eame que le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cite-espace.com\/centre_ressources\/hubble-les-plus-belles-images\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">t\u00e9lescope Hubble<\/a>, dont les images nous enchantent depuis 35 ans, a un miroir de 2,4 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre. Comme l&#8217;explique <a href=\"https:\/\/admical.org\/expertise\/la-recherche-le-domaine-mal-aime-du-mecenat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Admiral<\/a>, la recherche scientifique est en effet le domaine mal-aim\u00e9 du m\u00e9c\u00e9nat. Mais Wendy et Eric Schmidt (la femme d&#8217;affaires et l&#8217;ancien PDG de Google qui se sont connus sur les bancs de l&#8217;universit\u00e9) ont une autre fa\u00e7on de voir les choses. L&#8217;annonce du financement de ce projet par la fondation Schmidt Sciences a donc ravi les astronomes. Mais le renouveau du m\u00e9c\u00e9nat ne risque-t-il pas d&#8217;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer le d\u00e9sengagement financier des USA dans le domaine de la science ?
