Ces deux astronomes autrichiens ont rep\u00e9r\u00e9 cette faible n\u00e9buleuse plan\u00e9taire en 1980. Cette d\u00e9couverte (fortuite) a eu lieu en \u00e9tudiant des relev\u00e9s du <a href=\"https:\/\/skyserver.sdss.org\/dr5\/en\/proj\/advanced\/skysurveys\/poss.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Palomar Observatory Sky Survey<\/em><\/a>. Leur n\u00e9buleuse (catalogu\u00e9e \u00e9galement sous la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence PN G158.9+17.8) se situe \u00e0 environ 1.500 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/definitions\/univers-annee-lumiere-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re<\/a> de la Terre, dans la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2021\/01\/13\/hubble-saisit-une-scene-de-cannibalisme-galactique\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">constellation du Lynx<\/a>. Son diam\u00e8tre apparent est de vingt minutes d&#8217;arc, ce qui \u00e9quivaut aux 2\/3 de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2024\/08\/20\/pleine-lune-dans-la-fumee-des-incendies-canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pleine Lune<\/a>. Seule la n\u00e9buleuse de l&#8217;H\u00e9lice (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2024\/09\/24\/la-nebuleuse-de-lhelice-ngc-7293-revisitee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NGC 7293<\/a>) pr\u00e9sente une taille apparente sup\u00e9rieure. Cette derni\u00e8re, en fin de vie, a violemment expuls\u00e9 les couches externes de son atmosph\u00e8re. Il ne reste plus qu&#8217;un noyau stellaire extr\u00eamement dense et chaud, appel\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/definitions\/univers-naine-blanche-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">naine blanche<\/a>. Le rayonnement ultraviolet (UV) de cette naine blanche centrale continue d&#8217;exciter le gaz expuls\u00e9, le faisant briller.
