Cette n\u00e9buleuse plan\u00e9taire situ\u00e9e dans la constellation du <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2019\/10\/29\/la-constellation-du-taureau-dessinee-dans-la-grotte-de-lascaux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taureau<\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte en 1790 par <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/personnalites\/astronomie-william-herschel-521\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">William Herschel<\/a>. Avec une <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/05\/06\/quest-lechelle-magnitudes-astronomie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">magnitude<\/a> de 11 et un diam\u00e8tre apparent de deux minutes d&#8217;arc, elle est assez difficile \u00e0 observer. Les astronomes soup\u00e7onnaient donc la pr\u00e9sence d&#8217;un syst\u00e8me stellaire binaire en son centre, responsable de cette forme atypique. C&#8217;est bien ce qu&#8217;ils ont trouv\u00e9, mais leur surprise a \u00e9t\u00e9 de taille. La plupart des binaires dans les n\u00e9buleuses plan\u00e9taires tournent tr\u00e8s vite l&#8217;une autour de l&#8217;autre (en une journ\u00e9e, voire moins). Dans NGC 1514, cette p\u00e9riode de rotation est de &#8230; neuf ans, ce qui en fait, de tr\u00e8s loin, la plus longue p\u00e9riode connue ! Un r\u00e9sultat obtenu en analysant une d\u00e9cennies de mesures r\u00e9alis\u00e9es avec le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iac.es\/en\/outreach\/news\/longest-stellar-dance-planetary-nebula?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spectrographe HERMES<\/a>. L&#8217;instrument est install\u00e9 sur le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iac.es\/en\/observatorios-de-canarias\/telescopes-and-experiments\/mercator-telescope\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">t\u00e9lescope Mercator<\/a> \u00e0 l&#8217;Observatoire du Roque de Los Muchachos aux Canaries. <!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>\u00c0 savoir :<\/h5>\n<p>Les n\u00e9buleuses plan\u00e9taires peuvent \u00eatre confondues avec une plan\u00e8te dans un petit instrument, d&#8217;o\u00f9 leur nom. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, elles repr\u00e9sentent une \u00e9tape dans la vieillesse des \u00e9toiles de moins de huit masses solaires. Lorsqu\u2019elles passent du stade de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/definitions\/univers-geante-rouge-3731\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">g\u00e9ante rouge<\/a>\u00a0\u00e0 celui de\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/definitions\/univers-naine-blanche-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">naine blanche<\/a>, ces \u00e9toiles expulsent une coquille de gaz en expansion.
