Cette com\u00e8te non p\u00e9riodique intrigua les astronomes. Elle pr\u00e9sentait de tr\u00e8s rapides et nombreux changements dans la structure de la queue. Barnard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>R\u00e9cemment, une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs conduite par Sarah Anderson (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lam.fr\/apres-un-siecle-de-mystere-la-comete-c-1908-r1-morehouse-revele-ses-secrets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LAM<\/a>) s&#8217;est pench\u00e9e sur cette com\u00e8te atypique. Elle a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le r\u00e9sultat de son travail \u00e0 l&#8217;occasion de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/meetingorganizer.copernicus.org\/EPSC2024\/EPSC2024-59.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Europlanet Science Congress 2024<\/em><\/a> qui s&#8217;est tenu du 8 au 13 septembre \u00e0 Berlin. <!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>Rares com\u00e8tes bleues :<\/h5>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9quipe de Sarah Anderson a s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 des plaques photographiques de la com\u00e8te (r\u00e9alis\u00e9es en octobre et novembre 1908) conserv\u00e9es dans les archives de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2014\/05\/26\/lobservatoire-meudon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Observatoire de Meudon<\/a>. Leur analyse montre que C\/1908 R1 (Morehouse) ressemble beaucoup \u00e0 C\/2016 R2, une com\u00e8te d\u00e9couverte le 7 septembre 2016 par le r\u00e9seau de surveillance d\u2019ast\u00e9ro\u00efdes <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.ifa.hawaii.edu\/research\/Pan-STARRS.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Pan-<\/strong><strong>S<\/strong><strong>T<\/strong><strong>A<\/strong><strong>R<\/strong><strong>R<\/strong><strong>S<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. La com\u00e8te de 2016 pr\u00e9sentait les m\u00eames brusques variations :<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Changes in comet C\/2016 R2 (PANSTARRS) tail\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6fveRtDwVQA?start=7&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Autre similitude, l&#8217;abondance de monoxyde de carbone ionis\u00e9 dans ces deux com\u00e8tes. Le CO est un gaz extr\u00eamement volatil qui peut se sublimer (passer directement d\u2019un \u00e9tat solide \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat gazeux) \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures aussi basses que -248\u00b0 C (25 K). Il suffit donc que la com\u00e8te s&#8217;approche un peu du Soleil pour transformer le CO congel\u00e9 \u00e0 la surface du noyau en jets de gaz et en nuages \u200b\u200bbleut\u00e9s (la couleur du CO ionis\u00e9 \u00e0 la longueur d\u2019onde de 427 nanom\u00e8tres). Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, seulement deux astres chevelus avaient pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 cette couleur bleue caract\u00e9ristique : C\/1961 R1 (Humason) et C\/2016 R2 Panstarrs. Cette chasse au tr\u00e9sor a d\u00e9j\u00e0 permis de retrouver <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2021\/01\/26\/exoplanetes-indices-spectre-stellaire-de-1917\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">une exoplan\u00e8te sur un spectre de 1917<\/a> au Mont Wilson, ainsi qu&#8217;un clich\u00e9 de <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2021\/03\/11\/les-tresors-photographiques-oublies-de-lobservatoire-de-copenhague\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">l&#8217;\u00e9clipse d&#8217;Einstein (1919)<\/a> \u00e0 Copenhague.
