Il est d\u00e9sormais op\u00e9rationnel \u00e0 l&#8217;Observatoire europ\u00e9en austral (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESO<\/a>). Mais, \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence de ses pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseurs, il va travailler dans le proche infrarouge. Sa mission : rep\u00e9rer des exoplan\u00e8tes autour d&#8217;\u00e9toiles plus froides que le <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2022\/10\/26\/au-rajasthan-on-a-vu-le-soleil-se-coucher-partiellement-eclipse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soleil<\/a>. Il s&#8217;agit des \u00e9toiles de type M, dont la temp\u00e9rature de couleur varie de 2.500 \u00e0 3.900\u00b0 K (entre 5.000 et 6.000\u00b0 K pour le Soleil). Blind (Obs. de Gen\u00e8ve) \/ NIRPS consortium \/ ESO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mais pourquoi s&#8217;int\u00e9resser \u00e0 cette cat\u00e9gorie d&#8217;\u00e9toiles ? Parce qu&#8217;elles sont les plus nombreuses. On estime qu&#8217;elles repr\u00e9sentent plus de 75% des \u00e9toiles de notre Galaxie. Certaines d&#8217;entre elles sont c\u00e9l\u00e8bres, comme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/actualites\/etoile-il-passe-betelgeuse-satellite-meteo-tout-vu-79164\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">B\u00e9telgeuse<\/a> dans la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2021\/05\/05\/la-constellation-dorion-se-couche-depuis-les-iles-andaman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">constellation d&#8217;Orion<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>Deux spectrographes associ\u00e9s :<\/h5>\n<p>NIRPS est install\u00e9 sur le t\u00e9lescope de 3,6 m\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2019\/04\/18\/leso-fete-les-50-ans-de-son-observatoire-de-la-silla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Observatoire de la Silla<\/a>. Mis en service en 1977, cet instrument est l&#8217;un des premiers grands t\u00e9lescopes construits au Chili. Il va permettre d&#8217;\u00e9tendre la bande spectrale couverte par HARPS.
