Il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;une n\u00e9buleuse plan\u00e9taire de <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/05\/06\/quest-lechelle-magnitudes-astronomie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">magnitude<\/a> 12. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte par l&#8217;astronome britannique John Herschel (le fils de <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2014\/05\/12\/telescope-william-herschel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">William Herschel<\/a>) en 1835. Comment se forment-elles ?<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu\u2019une \u00e9toile pas trop grosse (moins de 8 masses solaires) arrive en fin de vie, elle projette dans l\u2019espace ses couches externes qui forment une bulle gazeuse en expansion.\u00a0<span id=\"more-3443\"><\/span>Le \u00a0c\u0153ur de cet astre (qui va devenir une\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/magazines\/espace\/infos\/actu\/d\/univers-lointain-on-ecoute-vibrations-naine-blanche-coeur-cristallise-47270\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">naine blanche<\/a>) \u00e9met un puissant rayonnement ultraviolet qui ionise le gaz de la n\u00e9buleuse, lui donnant ses couleurs. C\u2019est un spectacle \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle de l\u2019Univers, quelques dizaines de milliers d\u2019ann\u00e9es tout au plus avant que le gaz de la n\u00e9buleuse ne se dilue compl\u00e8tement dans l\u2019espace.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Zooming in on the planetary nebula NGC 2899\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pZD8XQyuBCY?start=1&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral les n\u00e9buleuses plan\u00e9taires ont un aspect circulaire quand on les regarde dans un petit <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2014\/05\/14\/en-images-les-telescopes-amateurs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">t\u00e9lescope<\/a> (comme <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/06\/27\/messier-97-nebuleuse-planetaire-hibou\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M 97<\/a> ou <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/08\/26\/gros-plan-sur-la-nebuleuse-planetaire-eso-378-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESO 378-1<\/a>), ce qui est \u00e0 l&#8217;origine de leur nom. Pourtant NGC 2899 a un aspect bipolaire : les astronomes ont d\u00e9couvert qu&#8217;il n&#8217;y avait pas une mais deux \u00e9toiles centrales qui expulsent une enveloppe gazeuse.
