Il faut dire que l&#8217;astre chevelu se trouve sur l&#8217;horizon EST dans les lueurs de l&#8217;aube (voir l&#8217;image de localisation r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/stephane.vetter.nuitsacrees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St\u00e9phane Vetter<\/a> le 12 mai) et que son \u00e9clat soit moins important que pr\u00e9vu (sa magnitude se situe entre 5 et 6). En utilisant des jumelles 8 x40 il \u00e9value la longueur de la queue \u00e0 plus de 7 degr\u00e9s (14 fois la Pleine Lune). La com\u00e8te Swan sera au plus pr\u00e8s de la Terre le 12 mai \u00e0 une distance de 0,56 UA. Si les tendances actuelles se confirment, elle pourrait atteindre la magnitude 3.<\/p>\n<h5>Mise \u00e0 jour du 28 avril :<\/h5>\n<p>Cette superbe image a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e le 27 avril. Elle nous montre la beaut\u00e9 de la com\u00e8te Swan (C\/2020 F8) d\u00e9couverte le 11 avril par l&#8217;astronome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/michael.mattiazzo.7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Mattiazzo<\/a>. Le noyau est entour\u00e9 d&#8217;un halo verd\u00e2tre, couleur typique du cyanog\u00e8ne, un gaz tr\u00e8s r\u00e9pandu dans les com\u00e8tes. La longue queue pr\u00e9sente de nombreuses torsades produites par des d\u00e9gazages irr\u00e9guliers du noyau soumis au vent solaire. Le bleu de ces volutes gazeuses correspond \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de monoxyde de carbone (CO). Si je vous dis qu&#8217;une nouvelle com\u00e8te passera au plus pr\u00e8s de nous fin mai, vous allez me dire <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2020\/04\/07\/la-prometteuse-comete-atlas-sest-elle-desintegree\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlas<\/a>. Et bien non, il ne s&#8217;agit pas de C\/2019 Y4 qui se brise actuellement sous nos yeux. L&#8217;astre chevelu est apparu sur des donn\u00e9es acquises par l&#8217;instrument Swan (<a href=\"http:\/\/swan.projet.latmos.ipsl.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Solar Wind ANisotropies<\/em><\/a>). Cet instrument n&#8217;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u pour trouver des com\u00e8tes. Son travail consiste \u00e0 \u00e9tudier l&#8217;hydrog\u00e8ne dans le Syst\u00e8me solaire. Lorsque le vent solaire rencontre un nuage d&#8217;hydrog\u00e8ne, l&#8217;impact produit des photons UV que l&#8217;instrument Swan se charge d&#8217;enregistrer. L&#8217;astre chevelu a une <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/05\/06\/quest-lechelle-magnitudes-astronomie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">magnitude<\/a> estim\u00e9e aux alentours de 8 et pr\u00e9sente une belle couleur verte ainsi qu&#8217;une longue queue de gaz et de poussi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<h5>La prudence s&#8217;impose :<\/h5>\n<p>Si l&#8217;activit\u00e9 de la com\u00e8te se maintient, elle pourrait atteindre la magnitude 3 lors de son passage au p\u00e9rih\u00e9lie (le plus pr\u00e8s du <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2016\/11\/24\/soleil-vase-etrusque-mer-de-marmara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soleil<\/a>) fin mai. L&#8217;astre chevelu serait alors faiblement visible \u00e0 l&#8217;\u0153il nu (et beaucoup mieux dans une paire de jumelles). Mais Karl Battams (de l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrl.navy.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>US Naval Research Laboratory<\/em><\/a>), qui avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9dit la d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration du noyau de la com\u00e8te Atlas, recommande la plus grande prudence. Il pense que Swan subit actuellement un brutal d\u00e9gazage qui ne devrait pas durer.
