Mais Om\u00e9ga du Centaure en est-il vraiment un ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Une pelote de 10 millions d&#8217;\u00e9toiles :<\/h5>\n<p>Il y a dans la constellation australe du Centaure un objet c\u00e9leste qui ne laisse personne indiff\u00e9rent. \u00c2g\u00e9 d&#8217;environ 12 milliards d&#8217;ann\u00e9es, NGC 5139 se situe \u00e0 15.000 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re de nous. Son nom, O<em>mega Centauri<\/em>, fait penser \u00e0 celui d&#8217;une \u00e9toile. C&#8217;est en effet ce que crut Edmond <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/05\/07\/3-mai-1715-leclipse-solaire-dedmond-halley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Halley<\/a> quand il l&#8217;observa en 1677. Quelques d\u00e9cennies plus tard John <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2014\/05\/12\/telescope-william-herschel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Herschel <\/a>corrigea cette erreur. \u00c0 premi\u00e8re vue il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;un amas globulaire constitu\u00e9 de 10 millions d&#8217;\u00e9toiles. Elles tiennent dans un volume apparent \u00e9quivalent \u00e0 celui de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2019\/11\/12\/pleine-lune-de-novembre-en-bresse-bourguignonne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pleine Lune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Zoom into Omega Centauri\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MarcYg2T9Aw?start=16&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Depuis quelques ann\u00e9es ce statut d&#8217;amas globulaire est remis en cause. Plusieurs indices laissent penser qu&#8217;Om\u00e9ga du Centaure est en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 le noyau d&#8217;une ancienne galaxie. <!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>Amas ouverts ou amas globulaires :<\/h5>\n<p>Les astronomes distinguent deux grandes familles d&#8217;amas d&#8217;\u00e9toiles : les amas ouverts et les amas globulaires. Les premiers regroupent quelques centaines de jeunes \u00e9toiles. Ils se situent au maximum \u00e0 quelques milliers d&#8217;ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re, \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2018\/08\/26\/en-video-quest-ce-que-la-voie-lactee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voie lact\u00e9e<\/a>. Au fil du temps ces amas se d\u00e9sagr\u00e8gent. C&#8217;est par leur \u00e9tude que l&#8217;astrophysicien am\u00e9ricain Harlow Shapley est arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 situer le <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2016\/06\/19\/solstice-quand-le-soleil-se-levera-sur-stonehenge-le-21-juin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soleil<\/a> au sein de la Galaxie en 1918. Leur formation \u00e9tal\u00e9e dans le temps et leur diversit\u00e9 contredit le sc\u00e9nario qui pr\u00e9voit que les \u00e9toiles d&#8217;un amas globulaire ont le m\u00eame \u00e2ge et la m\u00eame composition<\/li>\n<li>D&#8217;autre part on a identifi\u00e9 un courant d&#8217;\u00e9toiles originaires de l&#8217;amas, courant qui est attir\u00e9 par notre Voie lact\u00e9e. Il pourrait s&#8217;agir des restes d&#8217;une galaxie naine voisine dont il ne subsisterait que le c\u0153ur, <em>Omega Centauri<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Il existe un dernier indice en faveur de l&#8217;hypoth\u00e8se d&#8217;une galaxie naine. Les astronomes ont mesur\u00e9 les d\u00e9placements de 100.000 \u00e9toiles de l&#8217;amas. Leurs mouvements trop rapides ne peuvent s&#8217;expliquer que par la pr\u00e9sence d&#8217;un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/definitions\/univers-trou-noir-62\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trou noir<\/a>.
