C&#8217;est donc en son honneur qu&#8217;a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 l\u2019observatoire spatial Chandra. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 en 1999 (9 ans apr\u00e8s le <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2015\/04\/24\/en-video-science-et-poesie-pour-feter-le-telescope-hubble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">t\u00e9lescope Hubble<\/a>) par la navette spatiale Columbia. Son t\u00e9lescope est d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des \u00e9missions de rayons X. Il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;une galaxie naine satellite de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/feldmann\/2017\/03\/02\/voie-lactee-se-leve-arches-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voie lact\u00e9e<\/a> visible dans la constellation du Toucan. Il vous faudra donc descendre vers les latitudes australes pour l&#8217;admirer. Tout comme le Petit Nuage de Magellan, le LMC fut observ\u00e9 par le navigateur portugais <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/questions-reponses\/histoire-fut-voyage-magellan-5578\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fernand de Magellan<\/a>. Ce dernier r\u00e9alisa un grand tour de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique du Sud entre 1519 et 1522. En hommage \u00e0 cette p\u00e9rilleuse travers\u00e9e on donna son nom \u00e0 ces deux galaxies. Pourtant cet honneur aurait pu revenir \u00e0 Al-Soufi car cet astronome perse les avaient signal\u00e9es 500 ans plus t\u00f4t. Le LMC se situe \u00e0 environ 160.000 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re de la Terre.<\/p>\n<h5>Une bulle en expansion :<\/h5>\n<p>Depuis l\u2019explosion de SNR 0509-67.5, la mati\u00e8re expuls\u00e9e ne cesse de s\u2019\u00e9tendre \u00e0 la vitesse vertigineuse de plus de 5.000 km\/sec. Elle est pouss\u00e9e par une onde de choc chauff\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs millions de degr\u00e9s. La bulle que nous observons actuellement s&#8217;\u00e9tend sur une superficie \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 23 ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re.
