{"id":778,"date":"2017-03-13T16:55:59","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T15:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/barrau\/?p=778"},"modified":"2017-03-13T16:55:59","modified_gmt":"2017-03-13T15:55:59","slug":"la-gravitation-est-elle-emergente","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/barrau\/2017\/03\/13\/la-gravitation-est-elle-emergente\/","title":{"rendered":"La gravitation est-elle \u00e9mergente ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>La vision usuelle de la physique sugg\u00e8re qu\u2019il existe quatre forces fondamentales :<br \/>\n&#8211;\tla force \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tique<br \/>\n&#8211;\tla force nucl\u00e9aire faible<br \/>\n&#8211;\tla force nucl\u00e9aire forte<br \/>\n&#8211;\tla force gravitationnelle<\/p>\n<p>Mais rien n\u2019assure que ces forces fondamentales soient \u2026 vraiment fondamentales ! Elles pourraient \u00e9merger de quelque chose de plus fondamentale encore. Pour ce qui concerne la gravitation, quelques indices existent en ce sens : pourquoi est-elle si faible ?, pourquoi ne se laisse-t-elle pas quantifier simplement ?<\/p>\n<p>Les ondes sonores, par exemple, sont \u00e9mergentes. Elles proviennent d\u2019effets collectifs dans les mol\u00e9cules de l&#8217;air. Elles ne sont pas des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes fondamentaux et, pour cette raison, il n\u2019est par exemple pas envisag\u00e9 de les quantifier. La connaissance du processus d\u2019\u00e9mergence change notre fa\u00e7on de comprendre le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de fa\u00e7on non-triviale.<\/p>\n<p>La question essentielle est ici celle du \u00ab type \u00bb d\u2019\u00e9mergence. Il se pourrait par exemple que la gravitation \u00e9merge de la th\u00e9orie des cordes. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une description unificatrice du monde dans laquelle les entit\u00e9s fondamentales seraient des sortes de petits \u00e9lastiques en vibration. C\u2019est une hypoth\u00e8se ancienne, sp\u00e9culative, qui serait \u00e9videmment tr\u00e8s novatrice mais \u00e0 mon sens pas r\u00e9volutionnaire au sens de l\u2019\u00e9mergence. Une autre possibilit\u00e9 serait celle de la gravitation quantique \u00e0 boucles que je d\u00e9cris en d\u00e9tails <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futura-sciences.com\/sciences\/dossiers\/astrophysique-gravitation-quantique-boucles-theorie-fascinante-2323\/\" target=\"_blank\">ici<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mais la forme d\u2019\u00e9mergence particuli\u00e8re que je veux \u00e9voquer dans ce billet est diff\u00e9rente. Elle est thermodynamique. La thermodynamique est une science qui montre que les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s d\u2019un syst\u00e8me physique constitu\u00e9 d\u2019un grand nombre de petits \u00e9l\u00e9ments peuvent \u00eatre comprises ind\u00e9pendamment des d\u00e9tails des constituants fondamentaux. C\u2019est une science extraordinairement belle et fiable. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_777\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-777\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.futura-sciences.com\/barrau\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2017\/03\/newtonappler.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" class=\"size-full wp-image-777\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-777\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Repr\u00e9sentation imag\u00e9e de la l\u00e9gende de la pomme de Newton (de LOTHARLORRAINE)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Or, il y a vingt ans, Ted Jacobson, grand physicien th\u00e9oricien, a montr\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/gr-qc\/9504004\" target=\"_blank\">ici<\/a> que les \u00e9quations de la gravitation pouvaient \u00eatre vues comme r\u00e9sultant d\u2019une vision thermodynamique. C\u2019est un r\u00e9sultat magnifique. Il laisse entendre que la gravitation pourrait ne pas \u00eatre une force fondamentale mais appara\u00eetre comme la simple r\u00e9sultante de l\u2019existence d\u2019un grande nombre de petits corps en interaction. Auquel cas il n\u2019est peut-\u00eatre pas n\u00e9cessaire de la quantifier. Les \u00e9quations d\u2019Einstein joueraient le simple r\u00f4le d\u2019une \u00e9quation d\u2019\u00e9tat.<br \/>\nL\u2019id\u00e9e a fait son chemin et il a m\u00eame \u00e9t\u00e9 montr\u00e9 qu\u2019une vision thermodynamique de la gravitation pouvait permettre de mieux comprendre le probl\u00e8me de l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de l\u2019expansion cosmologique.<\/p>\n<p>Plus r\u00e9cemment, Erik Verlinde a propos\u00e9 un mod\u00e8le de gravit\u00e9 entropique qui s\u2019inscrit dans cette lign\u00e9e, tout en essayant de faire des liens avec la th\u00e9orie des cordes. Les d\u00e9tails du mod\u00e8le, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1611.02269\" target=\"_blank\">ici<\/a> dans sa version \u00e9labor\u00e9e, sont complexes et peu de physiciens ont pu comprendre la construction dans son ensemble. L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat essentiel de cette approche est qu\u2019elle conduit \u00e0 des pr\u00e9diction (l\u00e9g\u00e8rement) diff\u00e9rentes de celles de la relativit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale et peut donc \u00eatre test\u00e9.<br \/>\nUn certain nombre d\u2019\u00e9tudes ont point\u00e9 du doigt des tensions entre cette th\u00e9orie et les donn\u00e9es observationnelles, en particulier concernant l\u2019\u00e9tude de syst\u00e8me solaire et les courbes de rotation de galaxies.
