Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 en 2008 et fonctionne encore. Il est capable de aniesurer, avec l\u2019instrument LAT, ces rayons gammas \u00e0 des \u00e9nergies comprises entre 20 millions de fois et 300 milliards de fois celles de la lumi\u00e8re visible. Par exc\u00e8s, on entend le fait qu\u2019il y d\u2019avantage de signal que ce qui est attendu si l\u2019on effectue une mod\u00e9lisation astrophysique des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes connus. A une \u00e9nergie proche de 1 GeV (un milliard de fois plus que l\u2019\u00e9nergie de la lumi\u00e8re visible), les mesures montrent davantage de photons observ\u00e9s que ce qui est attendu.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Beaucoup de physiciens se sont engouffr\u00e9s dans cette br\u00e8che afin de sugg\u00e9rer des explications originales. En particulier, il est possible que cette \u00e9trange observation soit due \u00e0 des particules de mati\u00e8re\u00a0noire s\u2019annihilant. Il convient n\u00e9anmoins d\u2019\u00eatre parfaitement clair : une explication astrophysique est la plus probable. Depuis quelques temps, nous envisageons en effet que les trous noirs ne soient pas vraiment des trous noirs (voir <a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1401.6562.pdf\">ici<\/a> et <a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/1407.0989.pdf\">l\u00e0<\/a> les articles scientifiques fondateurs). Autrement dit, \u00e0 cause d\u2019effets de gravitation quantique, la mati\u00e8re qui forme un trou noir finirait par \u00ab\u00a0rebondir\u00a0\u00bb et former un trou blanc. Un trou blanc est en quelques sortes le sym\u00e9triques temporel d\u2019un trou noir : du second rien ne peut sortir, dans le premier rien ne peut entrer. Et, plus int\u00e9ressant encore, qu\u2019en observant d\u2019autres galaxies il serait possible de distinguer cette hypoth\u00e8se (somme toute assez exotique) de mod\u00e8les plus conventionnels.
