Bardintzeff, Flammarion, Paris, 2001, 120\u00a0p.)<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;archipel des Canaries fait partie de l&#8217;Espagne mais se situe dans l&#8217;oc\u00e9an Atlantique au large de l&#8217;Afrique, \u00e0 la latitude du sud marocain. Il s&#8217;\u00e9tale sur 500\u00a0km et comprend sept \u00eeles principales, d&#8217;Ouest en Est, El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, toutes d&#8217;origine volcanique.<\/p>\n<p>Le volcan Teide point culminant (3718\u00a0m) se situe dans l&#8217;\u00eele de Tenerife. La neige saupoudre parfois son sommet, d&#8217;o\u00f9 son nom signifiant \u00ab\u00a0montagne enneig\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb. Il y a 150\u00a0000 ans, une phase explosive majeure a \u00e9t\u00e9 suivie de l&#8217;effondrement d&#8217;une vaste caldeira de 15\u00a0km de diam\u00e8tre \u00ab\u00a0Las Canadas\u00a0\u00bb, dans laquelle se dresse le c\u00f4ne actuel.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 Lanzarote, 300 petits c\u00f4nes forment \u00ab\u00a0Las Montagnas del fuego\u00a0\u00bb dans le parc national de Timanfaya. Entre 1730 et 1736 puis en 1824, des \u00e9ruptions laviques importantes ont st\u00e9rilis\u00e9 l&#8217;\u00eele. La chaleur du sous-sol est encore telle, que la paille s\u2019y enflamme spontan\u00e9ment. Dans un petit restaurant, la viande est cuite \u00e0 la chaleur volcanique ! Dans la partie plus ancienne de l&#8217;\u00eele, de nombreux tunnels naturels, de plusieurs kilom\u00e8tres de longs (\u00ab\u00a0Cuevas de Los Verdes\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Jameos del Agua\u00a0\u00bb) r\u00e9sultent de l&#8217;\u00e9coulement souterrain de la lave, qui a ensuite abandonn\u00e9 son conduit.<\/p>\n<p>Dans l&#8217;\u00eele de La Palma, des \u00e9ruptions se sont succ\u00e9d\u00e9 au cours des derniers si\u00e8cles\u00a0: le volcan San Antonio en 1677-1678, le San Nicolas en 1949, puis le Teneguia en 1971, \u00e9ruption a\u00e9rienne la plus r\u00e9cente de l&#8217;archipel.<\/p>\n<p>Ces \u00eeles isol\u00e9es renferment des esp\u00e8ces \u00ab\u00a0end\u00e9miques\u00a0\u00bb sp\u00e9cifiques, sortes de \u00ab\u00a0fossiles vivants\u00a0\u00bb. Le dragonnier, arbre \u00e9tonnant, peut vivre plusieurs mill\u00e9naires. Bardintzeff).<\/p>\n<p><b>Activit\u00e9 sismique et volcanique \u00e0 El Hierro<\/b><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00eele d\u2019El Hierro, la plus occidentale des Canaries, est le si\u00e8ge d\u2019une activit\u00e9 tellurique depuis plus de deux ans.<\/p>\n<p>Celle-ci commence le 19 juillet 2011 puis s\u2019accro\u00eet. Ainsi, 454 s\u00e9ismes sont enregistr\u00e9s pour la seule journ\u00e9e du 21 ao\u00fbt 2011. Mais la majeure partie des secousses restent de faible magnitude (1 \u00e0 2) et localis\u00e9es entre 9 et 12 km de profondeur. 9428 \u00e9v\u00e9nements sismiques sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 enregistr\u00e9s le 5 octobre \u00e0 7h30.<\/p>\n<p>Une \u00e9ruption sous-marine d\u00e9bute le 10 octobre 2011 \u00e0 5h15 du matin, au sud-ouest de l\u2019\u00eele (\u00e0 7 km au large de la c\u00f4te de La Restinga, \u00e0 environ 1000 m de profondeur). Puis d\u2019autres zones \u00e9ruptives apparaissent, plus pr\u00e8s de la c\u00f4te et donc moins profondes.<\/p>\n<p>Le 15 octobre, il s\u2019agit d\u2019une fissure situ\u00e9e \u00e0 2,4 km de la c\u00f4te et \u00e0 une profondeur de seulement 150 m ! Des taches, des bulles (un \u00ab\u00a0jacuzzi\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0!) et m\u00eame des pierres fumantes sont visibles \u00e0 la surface de la mer. Les plus forts s\u00e9ismes d\u00e9passent la magnitude 4 (4.4), provoquant des \u00e9boulements sur l\u2019\u00eele.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9ruption se poursuit jusque vers la mi-mars 2012. Le c\u00f4ne volcanique sous-marin n\u2019est plus qu\u2019\u00e0 86 m de profondeur\u00a0!<\/p>\n<p>Depuis, des crises sismiques de quelques jours chacune se succ\u00e8dent tous les quelques mois (juin 2012, ao\u00fbt 2012, septembre 2012, janvier 2013, mars 2013).<\/p>\n<p>La derni\u00e8re crise sismique est toute r\u00e9cente puisque le 23 d\u00e9cembre 2013, 102 s\u00e9ismes d\u2019une magnitude sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 1.5 sont enregistr\u00e9s, le plus fort atteignant 3.1. Le 27 d\u00e9cembre, un s\u00e9isme de 5.1 (intensit\u00e9 V) se produit \u00e0 15 km \u00e0 l\u2019ouest de l\u2019\u00eele.
